    Serous
    – Thin, watery & clear
    – Most common type
    – Normal
    – Excessive drainage can indicate infection

    Sanguineous
    – Bloody
    – Can indicate trauma to wound
    – Can indicate infection
    – Not normal

    Serosanguineous
    – Thin, watery, pale red/pink
    – Can indicate trauma to capillaries during dressing changes
    – May require use of a contact layer

    Purulent
    – Indicates Infection
    – Thin or thick, opaque, tan/green
    – With or without odor
    – Not normal in wound healing
