Compression continues to be the gold-standard treatment for patients with venous leg ulcers (VLU), yet 15%-20% of these patients also have underlying peripheral arterial disease (PAD), leaving many clinicians apprehensive about utilizing compression. In this presentation, participants will learn how to identify and assess PAD and understand to safely utilize compression in relation to the ankle-brachial index (ABI) measurement.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Learn 2 causes of PAD and differentiate how each manifest.
  • Identify 4 symptoms of PAD that support its recognition.
  • Learn 3 assessments to determine whether arterial flow is impaired.
  • Understand ankle-brachial index results in terms of safe compression levels.
